1807 Captain's House, Historic Charm & Walk to Town

This classic historic sea captain’s house, located just up the street from the Jared Coffin House in Nantucket town, was built in 1807 by Captain Robert Gardner, Jr. who captained the Chilli, a whaler captured in the War of 1812 along with it's Nantucket crew by the Peruvian allies of the British at Talcahuano, Chile. Joel Poinsett, the U.S. agent in South America, rallies over 400 Chilean revolutionaries and rescued Captain Gardener and his ship allowing him to return to Nantucket in 1814. A short walk from Main Street, this elegant home features four bedrooms on the second floor with ample dining room and lounging areas on the first floor, large eat-in kitchen and a sunny and spacious garden in the rear. Within biking distance of Jetties and Surfside beaches and located on a quiet tree-lined street, this is the perfect “avoid having to drive into town” option for families on the go who want town access but also a quiet environment for their Nantucket vacation. The main floor of the house includes a formal living room, dining room seating 8, informal den, and a large country kitchen with up-to-date appliances (electric stove, dishwasher, refrigerator) and working franklin fireplace, as well as a laundry room with washer and dryer and a powder room. The second floor has a large master bedroom with a canopy queen bed, a second bedroom with a double four-poster, a single bedroom with an antique iron bed and a fourth bedroom with two twin beds. In addition, there is a central sitting room and two baths (one with shower, the other with a shower/ tub combination).
