Discovery Playground is a wonderful accessible playground and gathering place that opened its doors in Hinsdale Park on September 1, 2019, brought to life through the collaboration of the Nantucket Land Bank and Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association.
This park embraces a STEAM-based design, introducing kids and parents to the science behind everyday play. The playground is nestled within a wooded area, with Everyday Science signs scattered throughout to help everyone better understand the science behind the equipment and activities. Discovery Playground is sure to be an exciting destination for the whole family!
The Discovery Playground is a paradise for all abilities, featuring accessible outdoor furnishings and equipment. The “Poured-in-Place” ground covering makes it easy to move around and explore. Kids can have a blast with the high play value of the playground, with activities such as zip lines, a global motion spinner, kaleidoscopes, slides, swings, and climbing equipment. There’s even sensory equipment for a truly inclusive experience.
One of the zip lines has a special chair, allowing kids of all abilities to get the full benefits of the playground. This fully accessible playground also includes the Netplex Structure, Sensory Wall, Cozy Dome, Global Motion, HealthBeat Fitness Equipment, Zip-Krooz with pendulum seats, and inclusive seats. There’s also a ramped structure, plus various musical instruments to enjoy.

The Discovery Playground at Hinsdale Park is open to the public daily, from the break of dawn to sundown. The lot nearby has parking spaces that include for the disabled and a spot for buses. The entrance is home to a bulletin board that is frequently updated.
This playground is the perfect place to spend an amazing day with your kids. Every age and skill level will be satisfied; even grown-ups can have fun with the adult-designated section. There are also checkerboard tables for a more peaceful playground experience.
